2003 Inductee Dr. Vance Thompson named to international board for research in the field of intraocular lens development

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Dec. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — The International Intra-Ocular Implant Club recently elected Dr. Vance Thompson of Vance Thompson Vision in Sioux Falls to become a member by a unanimous vote. The Intra-Ocular Implant Club promotes research in the field of intraocular lens implantation and allows for the free and unhindered exchange of ideas concerning intraocular implantation. They also provide an international forum to improve the understanding of intraocular lens implants.

Sir Harold Ridley, an English ophthalmologist who invented the intraocular lens and pioneered intraocular lens surgery for cataract patients, started the club in 1966. The International Intra-Ocular Implant Club has a set number of members, which means you can only be inducted into the club if another member passes away.

“It is an honor to be part of the field of intraocular lens development,” says Dr. Vance Thompson. “At Vance Thompson Vision, we are constantly looking for ways to improve in our field, and this membership allows us to continue to grow and promote research dedicated to giving patients the best outcomes possible.”

This honor is extremely rare and is a limited membership. Vance Thompson Vision is proud that Dr. Thompson will serve on this board as a lifetime member.  Vance Thompson Vision is looking forward to the ways this membership will impact our research program in the years to come.
